Deed of Transfer
Every completed sale on VerseTrade is finalised with a signed legal deed - the document that makes ownership real, not just a handshake.

What the deed is
The deed of transfer is a binding legal document, signed by both the writer and the buyer, that records exactly which rights to a lyric are being transferred or licensed, and on what terms. It is generated automatically for each transaction and stored as part of the permanent record.
What it covers
- The work - the specific lyric, identified by title and a unique deed reference.
- The parties - the verified writer and the buyer.
- The rights - whether the deal is Non-Exclusive, Exclusive, or a Full Copyright Transfer.
- The consideration - the agreed fee, held in escrow until signing.
Signing
After payment is secured in escrow, both parties review and sign the deed. Only once it is signed by both does the rights transfer take effect and escrow release the funds to the writer.
Record-keeping
Every signed deed is stored against the transaction so both parties - and VerseTrade - have a permanent, verifiable record of what was sold, to whom, and when. This is what lets buyers prove ownership with confidence.
Legal effect
The deed is intended to be a legally enforceable record of the agreed transfer. For high-value or business-critical transactions, both parties are encouraged to seek independent legal advice. See also our Rights & Ownership page.
